About

Greg Abbas

I'm interested in computer graphics - for film, video, visual effects, motion graphics, and effective user interfaces. Especially tracking and rendering. But the dot.com era left me with a taste for web programming too, and you're looking at the unfortunate result.

I live in sunny Santa Monica, California.

The site

I wrote the code for this web site in Python, relying heavily on the Django web framework (the post-magic-removal trunk version). Thanks very much to Adrian, Jacob, Simon, Wilson, and everyone else who's helped make the Django project a success.

The title is a spoof ("meta spoof"?) on All Your Base (Wikipedia, video). The pixels' faces based on artwork from Janina Köppel's fun site, South Park Studio.

I based my work on the distribution graciously provided by Jay Graves (thanks Jay!) although I've extended it quite a bit. His theme is, in turn, based on K2 (GPL license) by Michael Heilemann & Chris J Davis. Like K2, I use some cool icons by Mark James (Creative Commons Attribution 2.5 License). Thanks also to several fine web designers out there whose work provided inspiration that I "borrowed" while designing this site. My sincere apologies if anyone feels like I cribbed their work too closely. Imitation=flattery right?

The whole thing was developed on a 15" Powerbook running Mac OS 10.4, which is IMHO way better than any other desktop OS on the planet. (Well, at least until 10.5 comes out.) "Macintosh" and the Apple logo are registered trademarks of Apple Computer, Inc.

If I have seen a little further it is by standing on the shoulders of Giants.
